What wading boots to choose - help
Materials used in wading boots. Typical wading boots are made of synthetic materials which, compared to leather, are usually lighter, more affordable and dry faster. They are less durable, though. Wading boots made of leather are usually more durable but also more expensive and heavier. Additionally, on the market there are available boots that combine both synthetic and natural materials.
Wading boot soles. In general two types of materials are used – synthetic felt and rubber. Wading boots with felt sole provide very good grip on algae and stones but they tend to slip on clay and get easily covered in snow. In some countries, felt soles are prohibited. Rubber sole wading boots do not provide as much grip on algae and stones but they are more stable on clay. Studding boots with appropriate screws eliminates the slippage problem. The boots with Vibram soles are very reliable in all conditions and the gripping properties of felt sole boots are improved.
Choosing wading boot size. Typically American sizing information is provided - please make sure you pick boots which are one size bigger compared to the size you would normally choose for yourself - this is necessary due to neoprene socks. The boots should be comfortable. They cannot be too big or too small as wrong-sized boots tend to wear down faster.
